Learn more about why sterilisation is important and what outcomes it can achieve.
Our journey for the humane and effective management of pet and stray animal populations began back in 2013, when we organized our first major sterilization campaign thanks to the support and collaboration of the well-known Italian organization ENPA. This has not been just a temporary project, but a long-term vision that has turned into daily, uninterrupted fieldwork, operating every day to control and improve the situation of animals in need.
We have spayed/neutered dogs and cats every day since 2013. In total, we have spayed/neutered 6200 dogs and cats which is a massive achievement to prevent unwanted litters and for the health of the animals in Albania.
We firmly and unshakeably believe that sterilization is the only true, scientific, and ethical path to reducing the stray animal population. This humane approach permanently excludes the barbaric and failed methods of the past, such as killings, cruel poisonings, or locking animals in overcrowded shelters that fail to meet any minimal standard of living and welfare.
The benefits of sterilization are essential and extend broadly to both stray animals and pets with owners:
* In terms of animal health: The intervention prevents the onset of serious infectious and tumoral diseases of the reproductive system, guaranteeing them a longer, calmer, and markedly healthier life.
* For the community and public safety: During mating periods, packs of stray animals often create situations of tension, disturbance, and fear for citizens in streets and neighborhoods.
Following sterilization, animals change their behavior, become much calmer, and any aggressiveness related to hormonal instincts or territorial defense is significantly reduced.
To guarantee complete, safe, and sustainable management, our protocol dictates that every sterilized dog and cat also undergoes mandatory vaccination and receives an identification tag in its ear (ear tag). In this way, we build a controlled, healthy population that is fully integrated in harmony with the environment and the community where we live.
